Philippine Overseas Telecommunications Corporation (POTC) is the mother holding company which, as of January 2000, is 35% owned by the Republic of the Philippines. The 65% balance is owned by six private family groups : Ilusorio (Bildner) – 18.1%; Nieto – 13.1%; Poblador – 12.4%; Africa – 7.1%; Benedicto/Traders Royal Bank (BOC) – 7.1%; and Ponce-Enrile – 6.6%. POTC owns 100% of Philippine Communications Satellite Corporation (PHILCOMSAT) which is the telecommunications company. PHILCOMSAT holds a mega-franchise for telecommunications, granted by the Congress of the Philippines and valid up to June 2019. PHILCOMSAT owns 81% of Philcomsat Holdings Corporation (PHC), a Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE)-listed company. 19% of PHC is owned by approximately 2,500 shareholders from the investing public. Among the minority shareholders are: Prudencio Somera – 10%; Oliverio Laperal Group – 6% and Jose Ma. Ozamiz – 2.7%. PHILCOMSAT HOLDINGS CORP. is the 100% owner of Telecommunications Center Inc. (TCI), a call center operation established as a joint venture with SM eVentures, a 100%-owned entity of the SM Group of Companies (Henry Sy Group). PHILCOMSAT also owns 70% of Montemar Resorts Development Corporation (MRDC), the holding company which, in turn, owns 88% of Montemar Beach Club Inc. (MBCI). The Cacho family is the minority shareholder in MRDC. MONTEMAR BEACH CLUB INC. (MBCI) is a thirty-year old beach resort in Bagac, Bataan.
